See No Stranger: A Memoir and Manifesto of Revolutionary Love, by Valarie Kaur, is a deeply moving and inspiring guide for personal and cultural transformation by shifting from fear to love. Recounting her own, her family’s, and her community’s experiences after 9/11 when, as practitioners of the Sikh faith, they were persecuted as victims of hate crimes, Kaur takes us on her courageous path of healing and evolution. As an attorney, activist, film maker, daughter, and mother, Kaur recounts her journey to becoming a powerful voice calling for a revolution in how we relate to ourselves and each other, and how to meet those who seek to do harm with courage and compassion.

Since the publication of See No Stranger, Kaur continues her work as a social activist and leader, with a call for global transformation of our way of being with each other: “The future is dark. But is this the darkness of the tomb – or of the womb? We are a nation waiting to be born and this is our great transition.”

Along with deep discussion of the book itself, the course will offer meditation and experiential practices to cultivate and take action through Revolutionary Love. We will also explore teachings by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Thich Nhat Hahn, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and other leaders dedicated to peaceful and compassionate response to violence and hate.

“This is the book we have been waiting for. It is a guide for anyone who believes that politics alone will not solve our current cultural and spiritual crisis. This book calls us into the hard and necessary work to heal our wounds and re-imagine the world. Providing a real framework for understanding and practicing Revolutionary Love, this book points the way through division and despair to a future where all people can have a place of dignity."
