Weekend Nature Meditation Retreat at EarthRise

Immersing in the natural world...

Connecting with yourself...

Nourishing body, mind, heart, & soul...

Being in stillness...

Relating authentically with others

This mindfulness retreat offers an opportunity to open your heart and cultivate spaciousness in your mind by stepping outside of the routine and familiar... into a world of beauty and state of wonder. Bringing curiosity into our relationship with nature, ourselves and each other allows us to experience what is “underneath”— the silence, stillness and ever-present miracle of simply being here, in this body, in this community, in this universe.

In gentle movement, we embody the qualities of earth, wind, and water. In stillness, we take in sounds, smells, sights, the feel of the wind and the sand… and the internal landscape of thoughts and emotions. We engage in relational practices, sparks of genuine curiosity inviting us to connect deeply with each other. We spend time just being, savoring the very essence of each moment, coming away refreshed and transformed.

Meditation Retreat Program

The intention of this mindfulness retreat is to offer a safe container for participants to experience deep connection with ourselves, each other and the world. As we cultivate awareness in nature, we discover that curiosity and compassion naturally arise, we feel more fully alive, and we access more of the totality of our being.

Mindfulness Retreat Location

This nature meditation retreat takes place at EarthRise at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a beautiful, semi-rural retreat center in Petaluma, California. The campus is a conscious living center that provides a gathering place to explore ancient wisdom traditions, supports experiential learning, and engages in modern scientific inquiry. EarthRise at IONS has become a place where psychologists, educators, leaders, philosophers, frontier scientists, and spiritual masters conduct their work.

At EarthRise guests can commune with the land and experience ecological awareness and transformational programs and practices that foster self-reflection and personal growth. The campus is a place where we integrate theory and practice, science and spirituality, as well as renewal and retreat.

EarthRise at IONS is located just 30 miles north of San Francisco. It is easily accessible from the East Bay and North Bay, as well as from San Francisco, making it one of Northern California’s premier retreat sites. (See info and directions.)

From Past Participants…

"This was one of the best retreats I have attended. It was not only well planned out, it was a warm and inviting atmosphere, too. I loved every moment! "

"I wish I could stay in a cradle of the woods and silence like that more often. I have noticed that I am much more "plugged in" to myself and energy around me."

"I was expecting to just meditate and connect deeper within but it was so much more than that. I discovered things about myself that I was unaware of."

"It would be lovely for everyone to have an experience like this, with such experienced and gentle teachers. The world would be a different place."

Why Nature Meditation?

When we engage our consciousness in nature, we awaken essential aspects of our being:

Connection: We sense that we're part of a web of life, a system of interdependency that is embodied in every breath as the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide with the plants and trees of the world.

Perspective: We have a much larger view of the world – one that is beyond our immediate circumstances and known experiences – and we can cultivate compassion for ourselves and others in the field of shared humanity.

Sense of Beauty, Awe, & Reverence: We connect with our ability to be astounded, surprised and humbled by something we did not expect or create; we re-recognize and appreciate the mystery of not-knowing; and we experience the expansion and transformation of what we thought possible.

Meaning: We recognize that, in this larger view, everything and everyone has a purpose and a role to play, including our own unique self.

Consciousness: We realize that we have the capacity to engage and interact through our senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell…and – here’s the real miracle – be aware of the awareness of sensing, feeling, and thinking.

These experiences and pleasant surprises come to us when we dare to go beyond the familiar and “known," to listen deeply to the teachings of nature, to see things as they really are, and to feel into our connection with the sacred and profound mystery of being.

Nature Meditation Retreats

When we spend a mindful, timeless day in nature meditation at the beach or in the woods, we somehow feel more energized, open and refreshed… because in this space, a part of us remembers all that we have forgotten, and a sense of belonging, peace, and inspiration arises.

A wellness retreat in our great outdoors offers the opportunity to engage our consciousness, which in turn, awakens essential aspects of our being. We sense that we are part of a web of life, a system of interdependency embodied in every breath as the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide with the plants and trees of the world. We have a much larger view of the world, and we can cultivate compassion for ourselves and others in the field of shared humanity. We recognize that, in this larger view, everything and everyone has a purpose and a role to play, including our own unique self. We connect with our ability to be astounded, humbled by something we did not expect or create, and surprised and awed by the beauty and power of the natural world.
